Vesper (2022)

“Vesper” (2022), directed by Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper, is a dystopian science fiction film set in a bleak future where the Earth’s ecosystem has collapsed. The story centers around a 13-year-old girl named Vesper, who uses her intelligence and bio-hacking skills to survive in a world where resources are scarce, and humanity is on the brink of extinction.

Living in the remnants of a once-thriving society, Vesper takes care of her paralyzed father, Darius, who communicates with her through a drone. The elite class lives in Citadels, hoarding the last of the resources and technological advancements, while the majority of the population struggles to survive in the wilds.

One day, Vesper discovers Camellia, a mysterious woman from the Citadel, who has crashed in the nearby forest. Camellia promises Vesper a chance to escape to the Citadel in exchange for her help. Intrigued by the possibility of a better life and driven by her curiosity, Vesper agrees and embarks on a perilous journey.

Throughout the film, Vesper’s resourcefulness and determination are tested as she faces the harsh realities of her world. She grapples with ethical dilemmas, the exploitation of nature, and the fight for survival. The bond between Vesper and her father, as well as her evolving relationship with Camellia, add emotional depth to the story.

“Vesper” is a visually stunning film that explores themes of resilience, the impact of human activity on the environment, and the quest for hope in a desolate world. Through Vesper’s eyes, the film paints a haunting yet hopeful picture of a future where the human spirit persists amidst adversity.
