Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
“Thor: Ragnarok,” directed by Taika Waititi, is a vibrant and action-packed installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film follows Thor, the Norse god of thunder, as he faces a dire prophecy foretelling the destruction of his home, Asgard.
After the death of his father, Odin, Thor’s long-lost sister Hela, the goddess of death, returns to claim the throne. Hela quickly overpowers Thor and his brother Loki, casting them out and beginning her conquest of Asgard.
Thor crash-lands on the junk planet Sakaar, where he is captured and forced to become a gladiator by the planet’s eccentric ruler, the Grandmaster. There, Thor discovers that his old friend, the Hulk, has also been trapped on Sakaar and is now the Grandmaster’s champion. With the help of the Hulk, Loki, and a new ally, the fierce warrior Valkyrie, Thor plans a daring escape to return to Asgard and stop Hela.
The film balances high-stakes action with humor and colorful visuals, as Thor must embrace his true potential to save his people. Along the way, he learns that Asgard is not defined by its location but by its people.
With Ragnarok, the prophesied apocalypse, looming, Thor leads a desperate fight against Hela and her army. In the end, Thor realizes that the only way to defeat Hela is to fulfill the prophecy and allow Ragnarok to occur, leading to the destruction of Asgard but ensuring the survival of its inhabitants.
“Thor: Ragnarok” reinvigorates the Thor franchise with its irreverent tone, memorable characters, and a strong message about leadership and sacrifice. The film concludes with Thor taking on the mantle of king, leading his people towards a new future.
