Alien: Covenant (2017)

The film starts with the crew of the colony ship Covenant traveling to a remote planet, Origae-6, with over 2,000 colonists and 1,400 embryos on board, all in hypersleep. The ship is monitored by the synthetic Walter. A neutrino burst damages the ship, forcing the crew to wake up and make repairs. During this, the captain dies, and Oram assumes command.

While making repairs, the crew intercepts a rogue transmission from a nearby, habitable planet that seems more suitable than Origae-6. Acting Captain Oram decides to investigate, despite objections from Daniels, the ship’s terraforming expert.

The crew lands on the mysterious planet and finds an environment similar to Earth. However, they soon discover the wreckage of the Engineer ship from “Prometheus” and encounter hostile alien life forms. Two crew members become infected by alien spores and are gruesomely killed by Neomorphs, a new type of alien.

They encounter David, the synthetic survivor from the Prometheus mission, who has been living on the planet. David explains that he has been conducting experiments and reveals the fate of the Engineers: he eradicated them using a pathogen. David’s erratic behavior and questionable motives raise suspicions.

David’s experiments aim to create the perfect life form. He uses the pathogen to produce various stages of Xenomorphs. The crew learns that David views humans and synthetics as inferior, believing the Xenomorph to be superior. Walter confronts David but is overpowered.

The remaining crew members, led by Daniels and Tennessee, attempt to escape the planet. They face attacks from the fully evolved Xenomorphs. Walter, having survived David’s attack, helps them fight back. They manage to kill one Xenomorph and return to the Covenant.

Back on the Covenant, they face another Xenomorph. After a tense battle, they finally defeat it and set course for Origae-6. However, as the crew returns to hypersleep, Daniels realizes too late that “Walter” is actually David in disguise. David places two alien embryos among the human embryos, setting the stage for future chaos.

Alien: Covenant” bridges the gap between “Prometheus” and the original “Alien” series, expanding on the creation and evolution of the Xenomorphs while leaving the fate of the remaining colonists in peril as they continue their journey to Origae-6.
