Don’t Breathe (2016)

“Don’t Breathe,” directed by Fede Álvarez, is a gripping horror-thriller that follows three Detroit delinquents—Rocky, Alex, and Money—who make a living by breaking into homes and stealing valuables. Desperate to escape her troubled home life and take her younger sister to California, Rocky convinces her friends to rob the house of a blind Gulf War veteran, Norman Nordstrom, who is rumored to have a small fortune stashed away.

Believing it to be an easy target, the trio breaks into Nordstrom’s isolated home one night. However, they quickly realize that the blind man is not as helpless as he seems.

Nordstrom, a highly skilled and resourceful opponent, turns the tables on the intruders, trapping them inside his dark, labyrinthine house. The situation escalates as Nordstrom reveals himself to be a ruthless and relentless adversary, driven by a disturbing secret he is hiding in his basement.

As the night unfolds, the intruders are forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse. Their initial plan to make a quick and easy theft turns into a desperate fight for survival. With every move they make, Nordstrom seems to anticipate and counter, using his heightened senses and intimate knowledge of his home to his advantage. The tension mounts as the invaders navigate the house’s hidden dangers and Nordstrom’s violent defenses.

“Don’t Breathe” masterfully builds suspense through its claustrophobic setting and intense sound design, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.

The film explores themes of desperation, moral ambiguity, and the consequences of underestimating one’s opponent. As the brutal confrontation reaches its climax, the characters’ true natures are revealed, and the lines between victim and villain blur, leading to a shocking and unforgettable conclusion.
